Biofeedback and neurofeedback (also known as EEG biofeedback) are mind-body treatment options designed to improve your insight into your physiological shifts that correlate to changes in mental states. With care, professionalism, and the best technology available, Dr. Jeena Jacob has been helping her clients use Biofeedback to enhance outcomes in therapy for over 15 years.

About Biofeedback & Neurofeedback
Peripheral Biofeedback and Neurofeedback trainings are safe and noninvasive methods of stabilizing your psychological functioning and complements the therapy services we offer. Our technology-driven approach trains clients to recognize and shape their physiological states to one that is more synchronous and stable. This has multiple positive impacts on mood, cognition and behavior. These trainings provide you with the skills to respond to stressors, both within and external, with resilience and resourcefulness. It puts you back in the driver’s seat of your own well-being. With time, practice, and education, you can learn to stabilize and rewire your mind and body!
How this Works:
Biofeedback is based on the principle of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is type of learning that uses rewards and punishment to change behavior. Biofeedback uses visual or auditory feedback to shape desired physiological changes, which in turn helps create behavioral changes
Typically one is not consciously aware of internal shifts in response to emotional states like pain, stress, anxiety, anger or fear. If you’re stressed or anxious, for example, your heart and breathing rates may increase, your muscles might become tense and you might start to sweat. With Biofeedback, you have a window into observing these physiological changes and thus modify them.

Peripheral Biofeedback uses sensors to measure physiological markers which have been established to shift based on shifting emotional states. These include such measures as Peripheral Temperature, Heart Rate Variability and Galvanic skin response (GSR). These bio markers can be read and changes can be shaped or reinforced based on audio-visual feedback. Shaping these biomarkers enhance emotional shifts, which in turn return the body and mind to a state of equilibrium and a better integrated state.

Neurofeedback is a type of Biofeedback that focuses on brain function by studying and shaping brainwaves. The brain learns to function better and more efficiently through Neurofeedback training.
Neuromodulation, in other words, Self-Regulation is at the core of brain function. The brain learns to modulate by way of feedback loops based on its interaction with the world. We can now augment that process by allowing the brain to see itself in action from moment to moment through its own brainwave activity, the EEG. The brain effectively gets to watch its own self-regulation in real time. This then allows the brain to improve its self-regulatory competence. This is a gradual learning process. and vastly different from methods that force the brain function to change without any learning, as in medications or magnetic stimulation. The brain holds on to learned self regulation after training, thus this is a new well modulated brain network which is more stable and synchronized.
